Machloket: The Soul of a Jewish Debate Session I (6/16/2021) - The Many Faces of Truth In Jewish thought, practice, and culture, there is never just one right way, one ultimate right and true path, but rather many layers of understanding. Together we will dig deeply into our textual tradition to see how these understandings combine throughout different times and places to form a vibrant, living Jewish experience.
Machloket: The Soul of a Jewish Debate Session II (6/23/2021)- Respectful Disagreeing When there are multiple ways to look at an idea, a text, or a situation, it is easy for disagreements to spiral into conflict out of control. Thankfully, our rabbis developed a way to argue about the important topics of their time while still respecting one another. Come learn with us as we uncover new ways to learn and debate!
Machloket: The Soul of a Jewish Debate Session III (6/30/2021) - It is Not in Heaven Our Torah and sacred texts have inspired the spiritual lives of people and communities for thousands of years, but Jewish traditions have endured because they have been adapted and reshaped in every age by leaders and thinkers who took on the mantle of spiritual leadership and built on the ideas of leaders who came before them. Join us as we dive into this chain of tradition and connect it to our modern day.
Machloket: The Soul of a Jewish Debate Session IV (7/7/2021)- A Seat at the Table One of the most fascinating aspects of Jewish texts is how many different interpretations there are in any text or legal question. But who are the people authoring these interpretations? Come take a look at some of the incredible figures whose thoughts, ideas, and takes on Jewish tradition continue to make an impact throughout the generations.
Machloket: The Soul of a Jewish Debate Session V (7/14/2021) - Well-being Within Your Walls, Peace Within Your Citadels Sometimes, our disagreements spiral out of control and turn hurtful or hateful. What are we to do? How are we to return to a respectful and peaceful dialogue with other after we have been in such deep conflict? Together, we will look deep into some of the pathways outlined by our Sages in order to find ways back into community, even after the turmoil of hurtful words and deeds.
