March 2018 Message from Sisterhood President

Every day we are so thankful to work with fantastic volunteers who find great speakers, organize events to bring people together, and raise funds to support programming here at Kol Rinah. The Sisterhood, from it’s inception has succeeded because the founders had a vision and everybody continues to contribute. We are excited at the future opportunities the Sisterhood will have to continue it’s mission in a synagogue that will be beautiful, functional, welcoming and even more spiritual.

Thank you to Gary Kodner and Peggy Nehmen for sponsoring a Sisterhood Kiddush in January to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Gary’s bar mitzvah.

Ellen Harken is handling tributes since Dorrie Lerner retired. Please keep Ellen busy at or 314.961.7232.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Sisterhood Shabbat in January, including Julia Lieberman for birkat hashachar and psukei d’zimra; Rabbi Jessica Shafrin for shacharit, Tammy Arnow for the introduction to the parsha; Lauren Buchsbaum and Leora Spitzer for serving as Torah gabbaim; Wendy Love Anderson for the introduction to and chanting the haftarah; Edie Goldman for leading us in the Prayer for Our Country; Susan Brown for leading us in the Prayer for Israel; and Joyce Olshan for the end of Torah service and Musaf.

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Trivia event, helping to make it such a success. Special thanks to: Burton Boxerman for another year of extraordinary questions, Max and Susan Brown, co-chairs of the event, and Jerry Raskin for his exceptional work on table and round sponsors.

Sunday March 11th at 1:00 pm. You should have received a letter about the Torah Fund which supports the JTS institutions around the world, including the Ziegler Institute of Jewish Studies. Co-chairs Irene Belsky and Marilyn Dien have a lovely lunch planned, and Rabbi Jessica Shafrin will talk to us about her life as a Rabbi and Rabbi’s wife. If you haven’t RSVP’ed, please call the office.

Shabbat -March 24th. Connie Fisher will talk during services and after Kiddush on how to recognize and deal with stress in our everyday life. It should be very helpful to all of us.

On April 30th, as part of the Conference, Cindy Ginsburg will be installed as region president at a dinner at B’nai Amoona.

Our Sisterhood Board meetings are now being held at Crown Center.
