First, a reminder that would have been more apropo last week: if you ever don't feel safe coming to synagogue, whether because of health, or weather, please don't come--even if you have some role in the service or some particular responsibility. Safety first.
Last Shabbat morning we had seven people here, and since the roads were treacherous, I'm glad many people stayed home.
This Shabbat it'll still be cold, but less snowy. Karen Kern and Will Soll will be here for a musical Friday night service starting at 6pm. Candle lighting is at 4:22pm.
Tomorrow morning we'll celebrate the bar mitzvah of Jonah Abeles, son of Stacy and Eli (of blessed memory) Abeles. Mazal tov to Jonah, to Stacy, to Jonah's brother Aaron, and to Jonah's grandparents, Rochelle Sapot and our members Bette and Ron Abeles.
Services will start at 9am, with kiddush to follow.
Shabbat ends at 5:23pm.
Hanukkah is coming!
Tuesday, December 9 at 7pm in person at Kol Rinah, will be "Eight Nights": Music/Poetry/Sources by Rabbi James Stone Goodman, joined by Rabbi Susan Talve. Prepare for Hanukkah with this single-session journey integrating poetry, music, piyyutim (liturgical poetry), and more. RSVPs appreciated here.
Tuesday and Wednesday evenings December 16 and 17, we'll be trying a new way of celebrating Hanukkah for Kol Rinah--"Hanukkah at Home." A number of Kol Rinah members have opened up their homes to host Hanukkah celebrations, and you are welcome to sign up to attend one (or more!). This is a lovely way to get to know some Kol Rinah people in a more relaxed environment. Details and signup here.
Our Annual Meetingwill be on Sunday, December 14 at 10am.
Next Shabbat morning (December 13) will be our next Kol Chadash musical service--we have some great new melodies and some old favorites we're working up.
Shabbat shalom and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
