November 2018 – ECC News

Our school year is off to a great start! With the holidays coming so early, we jumped right into learning, exploring and celebrating.

We had an incredible Grandparents Shabbat in early September in honor of Grandparent’s Day. During Rosh Hashanah, we invited families to join their children for a morning of activities inspired by PJ Library books. At stations set up in the ECC hallway, we baked round challahs, sorted apples, created a beautiful painting and learned about honey. We welcomed Joy Stinger, a local beekeeper, who taught us about beekeeping and let us sample her delicious honey. During Sukkot, Rabbi Arnow stopped by classrooms to show a lulav and etrog, giving children the chance to shake it in all directions. Our two oldest classes visited the Shafrin family sukkah for a story and snack. For our family Sukkot program, we built our own sukkah in the outdoor classroom and celebrated with families on a beautiful evening. Children created sukkah decorations, went on a nature scavenger hunt, and used gourds to create patterns.

Our Barnes and Noble book fair is the week of December 2. We will kick things off that Sunday with a family Chanukah event at Barnes and Noble from 3:30-5:30pm. Just like last year, the book fair will be open all week long. Our school gets a percentage back of the total purchases made that week. Synagogue support has been so helpful in past years; we hope you will all shop again this year!

It’s not too early to start thinking about the next school year! We always give priority to Kol Rinah members. If you are expecting a baby in the next year or have a preschool age child you’d like to enroll, give us a call to set up a tour. Several classes already have wait lists for the 2019-2020 school year.
