Expectations of Kol Rinah Teachers/Staff, Parents and Students

KoREH Expectations
At KoREH, we believe that a successful religious school depends on a partnership among our school staff and its families. This document outlines what families can expect from KoREH and, in turn, what we expect from parents/guardians as well as our students. Please review and discuss these expectations with the students in your household. We ask that you return this document via email by September 13.

What families and students can expect from KoREH
  • The teachers and staff at KoREH are here so that students develop a positive identification and commitment to Judaism
  • KoREH will have a security guard posted at the entrance during school hours.
  • KoREH staff will be in the Kol Rinah building between the hours of 8:30am-12:30pm on Sundays.
  • We welcome parents/guardians to linger after drop-off: the Bill Solomon Gallery at Kol Rinah is open for parents and younger siblings to stay and schmooze.
  • We will notify families of cancellations or delays due to inclement weather or other events by email and text.
  • We will provide a weekly email that details upcoming school events, reviews classroom activities, and provides a few photos from the previous KoREH session.
  • We will administer first aid in case of a minor injury. We do not have medicine/medication available to administer. We will contact parents/guardians or emergency contacts if a situation warrants.
  • Parents/Guardians will inform the director of any medical or health condition that may require attention during school.
  • Activities, lessons and electives at KoREH have been designed with the following curricular concepts (5 Pillars of Learning): Jewish Life & Holidays, Hebrew, Jewish Text, Ethics & Justice, and Spiritual Community.
  • We want all of our students to be able to read Hebrew fluently and to feel good about themselves, religious school and preparation for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. To this end, parents/guardians will be notified if a student is not working at grade level in Hebrew. Meeting with Hebrew tutors will be encouraged. A link to a list of Hebrew tutors is available at the bottom of every KoREH newsletter.
  • In the event a Hebrew teacher is absent, he/she will be in touch with you to discuss options for a make-up Hebrew lesson. Hebrew lessons will not take place during winter or spring breaks. It is up to the teacher and family to determine if a Hebrew lesson will take place during a week in which there is a Jewish observance/holiday.
  • Our program promotes a positive approach to managing the behavior of all students so that everyone can learn. Teachers will provide a routine, communicate expectations, set limits and encourage the student to verbalize ways of solving the problem at hand. Students may be removed from the situation and meet with the Director and/or Assistant Director to calm down and reflect on this situation at hand. Parents will be contacted according to the severity of the issue.

What KoREH can expect from our parents/guardians
  • Follow drop-off and pick-up procedures. A staff member will be in the parking lot to escort students into the building between 8:45 am and 9:05 am.
  • KoREH officially begins at 9:00am; the program for 8th/9th graders begins at 10:30 am.
  • For pick-up, the concluding times are as follows:
    • PK-1st grade - pick up at 11:30 am
    • Any students opting to take Hebrew lesson during the week (zoom): pick up at 11:30 am
    • Grades 2nd-3rd Hebrew lessons conclude at 12:00 pm
    • Grades 4th-5th Hebrew lessons conclude at 12:15 pm
    • Grades 6th-7th Hebrew lessons conclude at 12:15 pm
    • 8th/9th Grade program concludes at 12:00 pm
NOTE: We understand that families of students in different grades might have different pick up times, but parents need to be present in the building at the earliest pick up time. You are welcome to hang out in the Bill Solomon Gallery and get to know other families during your wait time for the other siblings
  • All parents MUST come inside the building to pick up your student(s). This is for safety reasons.
  • For the health of our KoREH community, students should stay home if they are experiencing any of the following during the previous 24 hour period: a fever, persistent, frequent cough, 3 or more bouts of diarrhea within the past 12 hours, continuous vomiting or rash with fever fever-like symptoms. The synagogue closely follows national CDC guidelines regarding recommended health practices and seeks to align our practices at KoREH accordingly.
  • If you know your student will be absent, contact the Director or Assistant Director by email or text.
  • Please respect the dietary laws of kashrut of the Kol RInah building. Outside food/snacks are not allowed.

What KoREH teachers and staff can expect from its students
  • Students should become familiar with the concept of being a mensch (a good person). At KoREH being a mensch has three responsibilities: respecting the teachers/staff, respecting other students and respecting the place/building.
  • Students are discouraged from bringing their cell phone to KoREH. Cell phones will be stored in a cubby or shoebox during KoREH hours.
  • Students are discouraged from bringing toys, stuffed animals, or other personal items.
  • When using school Ipads, students will stay on task and use our technology for class-related searches and activities.
As a parent/guardian, I have read and agree to the KoREH Expectations.

I have discussed the KoREH Expectations with my student(s).
We will adjust the total after you submit this form.
