November 2019 ECC News

KRECC has had a terrific start to the school year! We started off the year with a back to school event at Shaw Park on Sunday, August 18. The children had a great time running through the splash pad, exploring the playground, and visiting the ice cream truck where they got to pick their ice cream treat. Parents had the opportunity to connect with each other while watching their children interact with friends.

During Rosh Hashanah, we invited families to join their children for a morning of learning and exploring. At stations set up in the ECC hallway, children and parents had opportunities to sift through a honey bee themed sensory bin, use cookie cutters to create shapes from apple flavored oobleck, and use tweezers to place “seeds” in the pomegranates. In the community room parents and children were also treated to honey cake, honey and cinnamon cereal, and Rosh Hashanah music. One morning before Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Scott visited classrooms to share the sounds of the shofar. During Sukkot, Rabbi Noah stopped by classrooms to show a lulav and etrog, giving children the chance to shake it in all directions. For our family Sukkot program, families joined us for lunch in the Sukkah.  Children made decorations with Miss Erin Richter, our art teacher, to adorn the Sukkah.

On November 10, The Novel Neighbor is hosting a book fair for our school. Everyone is invited to shop from 12- 6pm that day. Those with young families are invited to attend our family program from 3-6 pm. ECC teachers will be staffing the activities during the family program so parents can shop without interruption during this time. Online purchases can be made through the website, thenovelneighbor.indielite.org, from 11/4 – 11/10. The items purchased through the online website will count toward our fundraiser as long as KRECC is added to the comments section of the order.
