A bit of History

In the early 1800's, a group of young intellectual Berlin Jews founded “Der Verein fur Wissenshaft der Judentum” (Society for the Scientific study of Judaism). In recognition, we have chosen the word Verein for the name of our Discussion Group.

What we were and where we are now  

We started as a book club in support of Scholars in Residence, picking a book related to a Scholar’s program and presentation. We have since expanded our selections, topics and forums. Our membership is rich with educators who innately are self-learners, and we’ve had a bottom-up way of approaching discussions. Our members have contributed to the programs with interesting topics and excellent presentations.

 

Just a few of the many series we have created include: Jews in Science, Biblical Critism, Yiddish Theatre, and investigations on Klezmer, Hazzanut and Jewish music.

 

We have met at individuals’ homes, Zoom, and in-person at Kol Rinah.
