11:30 AM - 1:00 PMZoomAmerican Jews and Native Americans: 20th and 21st Century Encounters
Sunday, November 21, 2021 at 11;30 am on ZOOM
Join Professor David S. Koffman for a wide-ranging discussion about Jewish - Native American encounters in 20th and early 21st century America. This session will touch on the extraordinary activism of a cadre of Jewish lawyers and civil servants who up-ended decades of anti-Indian federal policy, and the rise of American anthropology and the fascinating role of Jews and Native Americans in it. We will also discuss what's been happening of late between Jews and Native Americans - solidarities, tensions, and interactions around a set of fraught themes: suffering & sovereignty, colonialism & country. There will be plenty of time for discussion.
