Choosing Israel: Midrash and the Choice to be a Jew
Sunday, May 2, 2021 • 20 Iyyar 5781
11:30 AM - 1:00 PMZoomHow do Jews by birth describe Jews by choice? Jeff Spitzer shares a selection of midrashic texts that challenge us to confront the ways in which Jewish culture appreciates and honors the convert to Judaism while recognizing some of the ways in which Jews by birth might feel ambivalent about newcomers to the "family." This class will encourage all Jews (both native and naturalized) to think about what it means to choose to be in a covenant with God and the people of Israel.
