Each session will begin with a brief historical background on the communities whose music we will be learning, then we will listen to several examples of recordings from distinguished members of these communities, and conclude with a song circle where we will learn several Sephardic tunes together.

 

There will be a packet full of music for folks to take home after each session! 

You do not have to attend both sessions. The music packet will be cumulative.

 

Avishai Mazzeo is a professional musician and member of Central Reform Congregation where he has helped to build a new and exciting music program focused on musical diversity and education. Avi has performed with several Jewish musicians around St. Louis, including the Lazaroff Brothers and Rabbi James Stone Goodman, who has been a major influence on his journey to reconnecting with Sephardic music and culture. Avi is passionate about his study of Sephardic music, and hopes to share that passion with his St. Louis Jewish community.
