The Samaritans: Encountering a Biblical People
Sunday, October 31, 4 pm on Zoom
presented by David Selis

From Good Samaritan Hospitals to Good Samaritan laws, from the Bible to the Talmud and the Qur’an, we have all heard of the Samaritans, the “Other Israel '' who bring the Passover Sacrifice on the Holy Mountain, Mount Gerizim, but who are these people?

Join David Selis as he traces the history and culture of the Samaritans, focusing on their unique celebration of Passover as a lens into the complexity of modern Israel in the wake of the Six Day War. David Selis is the Leon Charney Doctoral Fellow at the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies of Yeshiva University, and a research fellow of the YU Center for Israel Studies. He is the assistant curator for the forthcoming exhibition, The Samaritans: a Biblical People. David is an alumnus of Yeshiva University (BA, MA) where he helped found its Coronavirus archive, which documents the impact and experience of religious Jews during COVID. He lived with his family in Saint Louis and attended Kol Rinah when it was Shaare Zedek for four years.
