SUMMARY
The Youth Group Advisor oversees all Kol Rinah Youth Groups including weekly “lounge nights” and organized chapter events, working with teen and pre-teen leaders to create community through programming and outreach within the synagogue. In addition, the Youth Group Advisor will attend out of town regional events with Kol Rinah (“KR”) chapter members, will arrange transportation** and assist in scholarship approval for KRSTL members as needed. The Youth Group Advisor also provides direct supervision to the elected USY President to assist and support in all activities and events.
**KR often travels to regional events with B’nai Amoona Congregation USY and both chapter Youth Advisors work together on arranging this.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Guide teens and pre-teens in creating their own dynamic, welcoming community within Kol Rinah
Attend and supervise youth lounge nights- assist in planning/programming in conjunction with teen leaders
Purchase needed supplies for lounge nights and activities
Provide KR Directors with list of needed food/drink items so that snacks are always stocked
Work with regional USY staff to plan/participate in regional events
Arrange transportation when necessary for local or regional events
Work with KR Religious staff to coordinate joint programming
Communicate with USY and Kadima parents/guardians on regular basis
Provide monthly reports to KR Board
Submit bi-monthly article to Kol Rinah’s newsletter, The Voice
Planning and execution of annual Purim Carnival
 
QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Experience, and Skills
Minimum of some college; bachelor’s degree preferred
Desired skills:
o Knowledge of basic principles of Judaism, kashrut
o Experience working with the teenage age group (13-18)
o Good communication skills- oral and written
o Good organizational skills
o Excellent leadership skills
 
SCHEDULE
Approximately 4-5 hours per week of planning time for lounge nights/activities events. Amount of time fluctuates over the year, depending on events scheduled.
Youth Group Advisor must attend weekly USY lounge nights: Tuesdays from 7:30pm-9:00pm and monthly board meetings, Tuesday from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, during the school year.
Youth Group Advisor must attend regional events, including out of town travel four to five times per school year, usually 2-4 days in length.
Note that some of these events occur during holidays:
o Fall Kinnus has been held over Thanksgiving weekend, but may be subject to change.
o Shabbatons, held at chapter and regional level require the Youth Group Advisor to be present on Shabbat.
 
COMPENSATION
Approximately $20 per hour, with fixed compensation for overnight events.
