Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Noah Arnow 1/22/2021

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

They always say don't bury the lede.  So... let's talk about Covid vaccination.

I encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.  Period.

The Rabbinical Assembly's Committee on Jewish Law and Standards has passed
two teshuvot (responsa) dealing with vaccination, including the obligation to be vaccinated, and ethical issues related to vaccination.  And here's a video the St. Louis Rabbinical and Cantorial Association put together encouraging people to get vaccinated.

So how do you get vaccinated?

The St. Louis County Department of Public Health follows
state tiers and guidelines to determine how the vaccine becomes available and only people in Phase 1A (healthcare workers and long-term care facility residents and staff) are currently authorized to be vaccinated.

We eagerly await phase 1B, which allows vaccination for individuals over age 65 or those with increased risk for COVID-19 illness. Notification and pre-registration systems have been launched by our metro area counties and can be accessed here

St. Louis City: You can
sign up for NotifySTL Alerts to receive notifications from the City of St. Louis when vaccines become available.

Information for other counties is available in
 KSDK's coverage of vaccine distribution.

Please stay vigilant as COVID-19 scams and fraud are evolving. Here’s
what to know about the COVID-19 vaccine to protect yourself from scams
.

And when you do get vaccinated, here are
collected resources on blessings to say.

Today at noon, we're going to have a great Torah Talk on "Dogs in the Exodus."  #TheAdventureofSilverBlaze.  (Extra points for anyone who catches that reference!)  And I promise, it will not connect to Covid or politics at all, for a change.  Just Torah.  And dogs.

We'll have mincha and Kabbalat Shabbat at 3:30pm today
.  And next week we'll bump it back to 4pm.

Candle lighting is at 4:54pm.

Saturday morning we'll be streaming services from the Sanctuary.

The readings are:
Exodus 11:4-12:28 (triennial section of Parashat Bo)
Jeremiah 46:13-28

Shabbat ends at 5:56pm.

And there's much happening for
Tu Bishvat, which is Wednesday night and Thursday.  This Sunday, we're having a stream clean, where we'll be outside cleaning up a stream!  Wednesday evening we'll be hosting a panel discussion on the state of the environment in Missouri.  Info for both are on our website, www.kolrinahstl.org.  Even amidst the cold of winter, a rebirth is being prepared--in the trees and plants around us, and perhaps in our nation and ourselves as well.

Shabbat shalom, and see you on Zoom,

Rabbi Noah Arnow
