Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Shafrin! 8/20/2021

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

As one year comes to a close, and the next is nearly here, it's only naturaly to ask ourselves some powerful questions: Where am I in life? How far have I come? In what direction will my life take me this year?

Fortunately, the Sages of our Jewish tradition understood that it is in our nature to question our lives and search for meaning at times like these and gave us tools during this month of Elul to dig deeper into who we are and where we are headed. One of these tools that often goes under-utilized is the Selichot service, that appears on the motzei Shabbat (Saturday night after Shabbat concludes) leading up to Rosh Hashanah and the start of the new year.

This year, on August 28, we will gather together for A Moving Selichot, a service made up of traditional prayers, songs, readings, and questions designed to help us move from one year to the next, from questions to answers, from deep inside our hearts back out into the world. As we move through these experiences together, we will also be moving physically through our new building, experiencing various forms of worship in several different locations.  We will start with mincha at 7:15 pm, followed by ma'ariv, havdallah, and then the main Selichot experiences.  We hope you can join us as we move ever closer together from this year into the next.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Scott Shafrin
