Shabbat Shalom and Shanah Tovah from Rabbi Shafrin! 9/17/2021

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

I feel very blessed each year to get one of the most work-intensive, but incredibly fulfilling, projects of my year out of the way in the first 10 days. And we made it! We made it through Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur together and, I hope, were able to start this new year off with a fresh persepctive and some meaningful insights.

It's a nice pivot, therefore, after many, many hours indoors for these services that we turn our attention outside toward the holiday of Sukkot, which begins next Monday evening. One of the most wonderful parts of this holiday is how it pushes us to get out of our comfort zone, to open our eyes to the world around us that sometimes passes in a blur, and to make it a mitzvah, a ritual commandment, to stop and dwell in a place, sitting, standing, or laying in an impermanent structure of our own making, surrounded by the work of creation.

Every year I am nervous that I won't have time to get ready; there's only 4 days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot, after all! But every year, I also cherish the experience of leaving my sheltered existence, my patterns and habits and rituals, and going outside (literally and spiritually) to encounter the world anew. I hope that this fall harvest festivla will bring a bounty of blessings to you and your loved ones, and may we all be renewed with love and health, compassion and kindness in the year ahead.

And now, on to Shabbat!  To celebrate, we will begin with Torah Talk this afternoon at noon (12:00pm). Rabbi Arnow will be diving into Parashat Ha'azinu and pulling out some brilliant pearls of wisdom. (see link below)

Tonight, our Kabbalat Shabbat services will be on Zoom at 6:00 PM (see link below)

Candle lighting tonight is at 6:49 pm.

Tomorrow morning, we will be in the sanctuary for our Shabbat morning service and will of course also be streaming from the sanctuary starting at 9:30am. (see link below)

This week we will read Parashat Ha'azinu
Torah Reading: Deuteronomy 32:1-52
Haftarah: II Samuel 22:1 - 22:51

There will be no Shabbat Mincha or Ma'ariv services this week.

Havdallah on Saturday evening will be at 7:50 pm.

Sukkot
The holiday of Sukkot begins Monday night, September 20! We will have services for Erev Sukkot beginning on Zoom with our regular minch/ma'ariv link (see below). Here is the schedule for those services:

Monday, September 20: Erev Sukkot
·  6pm Mincha and Kabbalat Sukkot on Zoom

Tues/Wed, September 21 & 22: Sukkot, Yom Tov
· 9:30am Shacharit

We will be holding shacharit services for the first two days of Sukkot (9/21 & 9/22) outdoors in the Sukkah, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, we will move inside to the sanctuary. Since our plan is to be outside for those first two morning services, we will not be livestreaming them. Please call the offices or sign up to attend these services.
