Dear Kol Rinah Family,
Please note, as per the subject line of this email, that as of now, the eruv is down. Please plan accordingly for this Shabbat.
It feels a little silly to say, but how about this weather! It is amazing to be celebrating Sukkot, one of the few times in our year when it is literally a mitzvah, a ritual commandment, to eat, dwell, and generally be outside, and we are blessed with some truly lovely, sunny, cool weather days.
For me, being outside has always been the space where I am happiest, and so celebrating a holiday also called Z'man Simchateinu, The Time of Our Joy, outside in a structure I built with my hands, and the help of my family, feels extraordinary and very meaningful. While not all of us have a sukkah at our own homes, we can still take the time during these holidays to appreciate the beauty of the land around us, to get outside of our norm, both physically and spiritually, and to realize that there IS great joy even during tough times, even amid the stress of life, even while still in the midst of a global pandemic.
We hope and pray that the moments of joy we feel can carry us through those moments of pain or worry or grief or frustration. May this time of joy be one you can feel and carry with you each and every day.

And now, on to Shabbat! Today, I'll be leading Torah Talk this afternoon at noon (12:00pm) taking a look at the fascinating pieces of Torah we read for the Shabbat of Chol Hamoed Sukkot (the Shabbat that falls in the middle of the holiday of Sukkot, namely, this Shabbat).
