Dear Kol Rinah Family,
With gorgeous weather and kids running back into school, it feels like there is much to be excited and grateful for this week. And here at Kol Rinah, we are thrilled that we have so many wonderful ways to celebrate and connect in the weeks ahead!
First of all, we are entering the month of Elul this Shabbat, a time when the rabbis of our tradition have urged us throughout the milennia to look into our hearts, our past, and our world and make a plan to help improve and repair our lives in the year ahead.
In honor of the month of Elul, we have a series of incredible learning opportunities. All will be in person at Kol Rinah, beginning on Wednesday, August 31 with Rabbi Arnow's session using song, niggun, and community presence to set our intention (kavannah) for the High Holidays and begin our journey into the new year of 5783. Classes will run for three consecutive Wednesday evenings (see below).

We are also thrilled to have our own Karen Kern headlining a concert to benefit our own Monica Lynne Neidorff Early Childhood Center here at Kol Rinah! The concert will be Sunday, August 28 starting at 3:30 pm in the Kol Rinah courtyard. The concert is open to everyone, and we are asking for a minimum donation of $10 per family, but all donations are appreciated and every dollar raised will benefit the amazing students, families, and staff of our incredible ECC.

Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting events and programs as we close up this year of 5782 and look forward together to an incredible new year!
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Scott Shafrin

Mazal tov to Hallel Arnow, who will be called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah this Shabbat, and mazal tov to your family as well: to Rabbi Noah, Tammy, Caleb, and Avra Arnow, as well as grandparents Susan and Max Brown, Madeleine and David Arnow, and Marshall Reiss! We are looking forward to celebrating with your family and friends this Shabbat.
We will be having Torah Talk today on Zoom at noon! Together, we will be taking a look at the tasks that Moses assigned to B'nai Yisrael for when they first entered the land. It is a curious list that I think speaks volumes both about the things that Moses feared for the future and also what his hopes for the Jewish people's future might have been.
Kabbalat Shabbat tonight will be in the sanctuary starting promptly at 6:00pm.
Tomorrow, we will be meeting in the sanctuary for Shabbat morning services starting at 9:30 am (livestream link below). We will also be celebrating the bat mitzvah of Hallel Arnow and the start of the new Hebrew month of Elul! Afterward, everyone is invited to join us for a lovely kiddush and some time to socialize together in the chapel. The link for the Shabbat livestream can be found below.
We will NOT be holding Mincha/Ma'ariv for Shabbat this Saturday evening.
