Dear Kol Rinah Family,
What are you trying to do differently, now, a few days after Rosh Hashana? How is it going?
How are you trying to be, different, or differently, now, a few days after Rosh Hashana? How is it going?
What are you proud of so far in 5783?
What do you wish you could (already!) do over in 5783?
What hopes do you have for yourself, and what commitments to yourself would you like to make between now and Yom Kippur (on Tuesday night)?
This Shabbat, between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, is known as Shabbat Shuva. It's both the first Shabbat of 5783, the new year--something new and exciting, and also a time to return, which is what "shuva" means.
If it was nice to be back in shul over Rosh Hashana, start the year by coming ("returning!") over Shabbat, whether Friday night (starting at 6pm), Saturday morning (starting ta 9am) or Saturday evening (6:15pm this week).
For me, it was such a joy to see so many of you over Rosh Hashana. I wish we had more time to catch up and really talk. If you'd like that too, give me a call or an email let's find a time to really catch up.
And a huge thank you to everyone who helped in all manner of ways to make Rosh Hashana so smoothly.
My sermon from Rosh Hashana on climate change is up on our website.
Rabbi Shafrin's sermon is also up on our website.
As I mentioned in my sermon, if you are interested in starting after the holidays to be part of a group thinking about what it would look like to think about Kol Rinah becoming carbon neutral within seven years, let me know!
Today at noon, Rabbi Shafrin will be leading Torah Talk at noon on Zoom.
Tonight, services will be in the chapel at 6pm for Kabbalat Shabbat.
Candle lighting is at 6:28pm.
Tomorrow morning, we'll start at 9am in the sanctuary.
Mincha is at 6:15pm Saturday afternoon, and Shabbat ends at 7:23pm.
The entire community is invited on Sunday at 10am to Oak Knoll Park in Clayton for our Kol Rinah tashlich.
Of course, Yom Kippur is coming Tuesday night and Wednesday. All the details are here. DON'T FORGET TO BRING FOOD WITH YOU FOR THE HARVEY KORNBLUM FOOD PANTRY TO KOL NIDRE!
Lots is also happening for Sukkot, including a litter pick-up Sunday, October 9 from 2-4pm, Brotherhood's Steak and Scotch in the Sukkah Sunday, October 9 at 6:30pm, S'mores, Stories and Songs in the Sukkah on Wednesday, October 12 at 6pm for young families, and Sisterhood's Supper in the Sukkah Thursday evening October 13 at 7pm. Details for all of these are on our website.
Shabbat shalom, gamar chatima tova (may you have a good seal [in the book of life]), and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
