Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 5/5/2023

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

Are you thinking about moving from St. Louis?  If you are, chances are you or someone in your family is trans or gender-expansive in some way, and the legislation and especially the Missouri Attorney General's efforts to restrict medical care around gender are making you consider leaving the state.

While I was relieved to see that a judge's injunction blocking the AG's rule from taking effect was
extended until July 24, there are so many people, including within our Kol Rinah family, who are still making plans to leave, given the environment in the state.

This breaks my heart, but it breaks the lives of people we all know and care about.

Rabbi Shafrin's powerful sermon from last Shabbat on these issues is available here.

Today at noon Rabbi Shafrin will lead Torah Talk on Zoom.

We'll welcome Shabbat with Kabbalat Shabbat at 6pm tonight.

Candle lighting is at 7:39pm.

Tomorrow morning we start at 9am.  At 10:45am is Kol HaMishpacha (our service for elementary-school age kids), and there's kiddush after services.

Mincha Saturday evening will be at 7:30pm, and Shabbat ends at 8:42pm.

Sunday is Mitzvah Day, beginning at 11:30am!  Come, even if you haven't signed up.  And there will be activities for kids, as well as adults of all ages.

Tuesday evening we'll celebrate Lag B'Omer at Shaw Park starting at 5pm--it'll be a blast--
details and sign up here.  We're so excited to be partnering this year with the J.

Next Shabbat we'll have our musical Kol Chadash service.

And looking further ahead, on Saturday, May 20 we'll celebrate Rabbi Wendy Love Anderson and Jeremy Buhler (and Rayne and Zachary), and recognize their contributions to our synagogue.  They will be leaving our community and moving to Albany over the summer, where Wendy will become the rabbi of Temple Israel of Albany.  We're both so happy for them, and will also miss them.

Shabbat shalom and see you in shul and at the park,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
