Chag Sameach, then Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 5/25/2023

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

I love Shavuot.  I love blintzes and cheesecake.  I love studying Torah.  And I like not having to build anything or clean anything, and being able to eat.  And community is pretty great too.

There may not be blintzes, but there will be cheesecake, Torah, and no building or cleaning over Shavuot at Kol Rinah. And especially tonight, there will be community!

I'm so excited for Kol Rinah to host our community Tikkun Leil Shavuot (late night Torah study) this year, together with Bais Abe and CRC.

One halakhic note: since the festival's second day is Shabbat, and since we want on Shabbat to have fresh, delicious food prepared right before Shabbat, we want to be able to cook on Friday for Shabbat.  But there's a problem!  While you can cook on a holiday for that day, you can't cook for other days.  Thus we have the work-around of the eruv tavshilin, whereby we technically start our Shabbat food prep before the holiday, and then can continue it during the holiday.
Details are here!

The
full schedule is here.

We'll start with mincha at 7:45pm.  Then, Rabbi Shafrin and I will tag-team teaching (with your participation!!!) some different methodologies of Torah study, as applied to one of the most startling moments of the entire Torah: when Moses, Aaron, Nadav, Avihu, and the seventy elders see God and then eat and drink.

Candle lighting is at 7:57pm.

We wait to do maariv until it's fully nighttime, so that we can say seven full weeks of days have elapsed since we started counting the Omer on the second day of Passover.  So maariv will be at 9pm, and then dinner for everyone who signed up.

The Tikkun formally starts at 10:15pm with a kickoff, then learning until 2am.  All are welcome!

Tomorrow morning at 9am, we'll have our festival morning service.
Mincha and maariv will be at 6pm Friday.
Saturday morning again 9am, with the reading of Ruth and Yizkor.

No Torah Talk this week.

Shavuot and Shabbat end at 9:03pm.
Chag sameach and Shabbat shalom, and see you in shul,

Shabbat shalom and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
