Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 6/2/2023

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

I want to share some BIG SHABBAT MINCHA NEWS!

Before Covid, and now for more than a year, every week we have had Shabbat mincha (the Shabbat afternoon service), learning, maariv (evening service) and havdalah (service ending shabbat) every week, starting seventy-five minutes before Shabbat ends.

Lately, we have not been getting a minyan though, and more regulars will be away over the summer.  In conversation with the Shabbat mincha regulars, we have decided to move Shabbat mincha, at least for the summer, to once a month--June 17, July 15 and August 19.

Before Covid, we always had se'udah shleesheet (the third meal of Shabbat) between mincha and maariv, but since coming back after the Covid shutdown, we have not had food at Shabbat mincha.

But we're going to try making our once-a-month Shabbat minchas a bit of a bigger happening--we'll start two hours before Shabbat ends, we'll have food, some learning, maybe a little singing(!), and a beautiful havdalah.

We'll take the fall holiday season off from Shabbat mincha, and won't have it in September or the first two weeks in October.  Over the summer we'll decide how to move forward with Shabbat mincha in the fall, whether moving it back to every week, or keeping it at once a month, or maybe something different.

If you have thoughts or suggestions, let me know!  And come join us:
at 7:15pm on Saturday, June 17
at 7:10pm on Saturday, July 15
at 6:35pm on Saturday, August 19

There is no Torah Talk today (or tomorrow).  Look for an announcement soon on how we will be restructuring Torah Talk--exciting news!

This Shabbat, we'll welcome Shabbat at 6pm with our full musical Friday night service--it's one of the last weeks we'll have our full contingent of Rabbi Shafrin, Karen Kern, Will Soll and me before Rabbi Shafrin's departure, so don't miss it!

Candle lighting is at 8:03pm.

Tomorrow morning is Sisterhood Shabbat, and I'm thrilled by all the different women who will be participating in services.  We'll also be honoring the memory of Irene Belsky z"l, who many of us remember affectionately.

At 10:45am, we'll have our elementary school-age Kol HaMishpacha service.

And of course, there will be kiddush!

Shabbat ends at 9:09pm.

Shabbat shalom and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
