This is a significant Shabbat at Kol Rinah in at least five ways. Here's the countdown, from five down to one:
5. Shabbat in the Park--Tonight at 6pm, we'll gather at the Shaw Park South Shelterfor an abbreviated Kabbalat Shabbat, maariv, challah and grape juice. Bring a picnic if you like, too. There's a playground right nearby for those interested too. (There will not be services tonight in our building.)
4. Tomorrow at 7:15pm, we'll have our first monthly Shabbat mincha, with food, birkat hamazon, learning, and singing, concluding with maariv and havdalah. Join Rabbi Shafrin for a lovely way to end one of the latest Shabbatot of the year!
3. Today at noon on Zoom and tomorrow at 10:15am I'll be leading Torah Talk. But then Torah Talk will go on hiatus until August 5, when it will be back only on Saturdays, and led by a rotating group, including Prof. Nancy Berg, Will Soll, Joyce Olshan, Karen Kern (singing niggunim), and me. So this is this is the last Torah Talk on Zoom for the forseeable future, and the last in this iteration of Torah Talk. (And I do have some good material this week--join us!)
2. Tomorrow morning, after services we'll have a Pride-themed (aka RAINBOW!) kiddush. Thanks to all those who have worked to put it together. Speaking of Pride, join us to march with the Jewish and Kol Rinah communities in the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 25. Meet at 12th and Market at noon! We'll also have a Pride happy hour and painting event on Tuesday, June 27 at 5pm here. Details here. Happy Pride!
1. This Shabbat we'll be honoring Rabbis Scott and Jessica Shafrin and the Shafrin family for their contributions to our Kol Rinah community, as Rabbi Scott Shafrin prepares to transition at the end of June to his new position with the St. Louis Jewish Community Relations Council. They're not leaving Kol Rinah or St. Louis, but this will be an opportunity to mark this transition. This is a big transition for them, and for our community, and it's a celebration, an appreciation, and also tinged with sadness, because we, and I, will really, really miss Rabbi Scott being a part of our Kol Rinah team as he has been these last seven years.
And next Saturday we'll have our Kol Chadash musical service, starting at 9:30am. It'll rock.
Candle lighting tonight is at 8:10pm, and Shabbat ends at 9:17pm.
Shabbat shalom and see you in at the park and at shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
