Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 8/18/2023

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

At the end of this email is some important information on affordable housing for Jewish seniors.  If this could be useful for you or someone you know, please read carefully for a great opportunity.

Here's
a link to my sermon from last Shabbat, entitled "The Penny and the Whip."

We have a full Shabbat of, well, all the Shabbat things.  And then Sunday afternoon is Summerfest!!!

Tonight at 6pm, I'll be here at Kol Rinah for an a cappella mincha, Kabbalat Shabbat and ma'ariv.

Candle lighting is at 7:34pm.

Tomorrow morning we start as usual at 9am. It will be an Enchanting Shabbat, with members of the congregation doing most of the Torah reading.

I'll be leading Torah Talk at 10:15am in the Community Hall.  We'll be looking at some Torah of ants.

Tot Shabbat with Karen Kern will be in the chapel at 10:45am.

I'll be speaking, apropos of Parshat Shofetim (literally, "Judges"), on some Torah related to judges, who seem as much in the news as ever, if not more so, both here and in Israel.

Kiddush follows services.

Starting at 6:35pm, we'll have Shabbat mincha, Seudah Shelisheet (the third meal of Shabbat) with a little Elul-themed learning, some singing, ma'ariv and Havdalah.  Shabbat ends 8:33pm.

Sunday, starting at 3:30pm (until 6:15pm) is
Summerfest!  It's going to be an amazing festival of music, food, drink, activities, games, a raffle, and more.  It's going to be quite the event, and SO many volunteers have been working hard to make it a success.  We're proud to be partnering with the J and PJ Library.  Come join us!  It may be hot, but we'll keep you cool!

The High Holidays are coming (just a month away, now, yikes!), and all the details, forms, and information is on our website.

I'm starting
High Holiday preparation classes Tuesday, August 22, here in person at 7pm, starting with some interpersonal teshuvah (repentance) work.

Kol Chadash, our musical Shabbat morning service, is coming next Saturday, August 26 (starting at 9:30am).

grief havurah (group) led by Rabbi Jessica Shafrin will be having its first meeting the morning of Sunday, August 27.

For all of these, and much more, check out
our website.

Last but not least, we are collecting school supplies for the beginning of the school year.  Bring supplies (
details on what we need are here) to our lobby.

Shabbat shalom and see you at shul,

Rabbi Noah Arnow

From Covenant Place:
A major renovation of the CHAI Building (soon to be renamed, Covenant Place III JCA Building) on the Jewish Community’s Millstone Campus, is underway. The building will offer 150 Section 8 subsidized, one bedroom apartments, for adults 62+, and 5 additional one-bedroom apartments at a reduced rent rate.  (Income eligibility requirements apply.) At this time next year we will be able to lease 80 beautifully renovated apartments to new residents. The waitlist for these apartments is now open and for those on the wait list it will be a considerably shorter wait time than is typical (normal wait time is 2+ years).
