Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 8/25/2023

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

Here's a link to my sermon from last Shabbat, entitled "Judicial Reminders."
And I wrote a
d'var Torah for the St. Louis Jewish Light this week on Parashat Ki Teitzei.

Last Sunday was *very* hot, but Summerfest was a great success.  It was so lovely to see so many of you, and especially to see so many little kids!  A huge thank you to everyone who helped, and most especially to our co-chairs, Alissa Duel and Dan Rosenthal.  Great air conditioning, music, activities, food and people--what could be better?

Tonight, we'll welcome Shabbat at 6pm in our nice, cool chapel, with a musical Kabbalat Shabbat.

Candle lighting is at 7:24pm.

Tomorrow morning, we'll have our musical Kol Chadash service, starting at 9:30am (not 9am).  You can find a bunch of the music we'll be singing on
this Spotify playlist.  Come join us to sing, daven, and just be.

Shabbat ends at 8:22pm.

The High Holidays are coming (just three weeks away, now, yikes!), and all the details, forms, and information are on our website.  The Yizkor book deadline is approaching at the end of the month!!!

Sunday at 4pm on Zoom we'll have our second of three Elul Teshuvah (repentance) workshops.  We'll focus on repairing our relationship with ourselves: How can we treat ourselves better, and reconnect to our best, truest selves? Through Jewish tradition, crowdsourcing, and introspection, we’ll make some “Rosh Hashanah resolutions” for ourselves.
Register here to get the Zoom link.

grief havurah (group) led by Rabbi Jessica Shafrin will be having its first meeting the morning of Sunday, August 27.

For all of these, and much more, check out
our website.

Last but not least, we are collecting school supplies for the beginning of the school year.  Bring supplies (
details on what we need are here) to our lobby.

Shabbat shalom and see you at shul,

Rabbi Noah Arnow

From Covenant Place:
A major renovation of the CHAI Building (soon to be renamed, Covenant Place III JCA Building) on the Jewish Community’s Millstone Campus, is underway. The building will offer 150 Section 8 subsidized, one bedroom apartments, for adults 62+, and 5 additional one-bedroom apartments at a reduced rent rate.  (Income eligibility requirements apply.) At this time next year we will be able to lease 80 beautifully renovated apartments to new residents. The waitlist for these apartments is now open and for those on the wait list it will be a considerably shorter wait time than is typical (normal wait time is 2+ years).

This is a link to the Eligibility Questionnaire, located on our website, where additional information can be found.
