My sermon from last Shabbat on the ways that religion could or should infuence the different dimensions of our lives is here.
Tonight, join me for Kabbalat Shabbat at 6pm. It'll be nice and cool in the chapel!
Candle lighting is at 7:26pm.
Tomorrow morning, we'll have our musical Kol Chadash service, beginning at 9:30am. We have a couple of new (for us) melodies we're excited to use. As a reminder, many of the melodies are available on this Spotify playlist. If you haven't been before, what happens at Kol Chadash is pretty different from a regular Saturday morning service. Come check it out!
Shabbat ends at 8:24pm.
Next Saturday morning (8/31) we will celebrate the bat mitzvah of Vera Shmuylovich.
The following Saturday morning (9/7), the first Shabat in Elul, we'll be having something new for us: Heirloom Shabbat.
Do you have a cherished wearable family heirloom? This is your chance to wear your grandmother’s beloved necklace or your mother’s favorite earrings.
Men, don’t be left out—wear a special family tie, cufflinks, or any other meaningful accessory. Join us for Heirloom Shabbat as we celebrate our ancestors by wearing these precious treasures. It’s for fun and to honor their memory. There will be a special drash by Rabbi Jessica Shafrin.
During the month of August, Kol Rinah's Tzedek Team is sponsoring a school supplies drive to support KidSmart, which will distribute these items to teachers in the St. Louis area. A collection bin is located outside the sanctuary. Pens, pencils, glue sticks, markers, notebooks, folders, crayons and markers are welcome.
High Holidays are coming, although not until October this year. But we're hard at work planning for them now. You should have already received the Yizkor mailing. If you did not, or have questions, please call the office.
The High Holiday mailing with more details will be going out in the mail in the next week or so, so look for that, which will include some Elul/High Holiday prep opportunties.
May the one who makes peace in the heavens make peace over us, and over all Israel, and over all who dwell in the world.
Shabbat shalom and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
