Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 2/28/2025

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

As you have likely heard, there are many efforts, federally, as well in states including Missouri, to restrict the rights and identities of trans and non-binary people, both adults and kids.

This is a good time to check in on trans and non-binary people that you know, to see if they want to share some of their feelings, and just to let them know that you're concerned for them and support them.

Kol Rinah remains committed to the full rights and inclusion of trans and non-binary people in our congregation, and in our world.  This is fully in line with a
resolution of the Rabbinical Assembly, the organization of Conservative rabbis, and how I and our movement think about how God and Torah understand the diversity and holiness of human beings.

For more resources, check out
Promo Missouri, Missouri's LGBTQ+ policy and advocacy organization, as well as Keshet, which works for the full equality of LGBTQ+ Jews and families in Jewish life.

Tonight, candle lighting is at 5:34pm.  Karen Kern and Will Soll will be here for a musical Kabbalat Shabbat at 6pm.

Tomorrow morning, beginning at 9:30am, will be Kol Chadash, our musical Shabbat morning service.  Last Kol Chadash, we bid farewell to Rabbi Scott Shafrin, Rabbi Jessica Shafrin, Amitai and Nadav, as they prepared to move from St. Louis.

This Saturday, we'll welcome two new members to the Kol Chadash team: Gavriel Savit-Woods and Avi Mazzeo.  Also, today and tomorrow are Rosh Chodesh Adar (the new month of Adar), so we'll be saying Hallel--the extra psalms of praise we say on holidays.  We're working up an amazing musical Hallel, and are so excited to sing with you all.  Don't miss it!

Here's a Spotify playlist of some of the melodies we'll be using during Hallel, and here's a Spotify playlist of much of what we regularly do at Kol Chadash.

Kiddush will follow services.  Shabbat ends at 6:36p.

Deadline Extended to Today!!!
Beginning in March, our Israel Committee will be convening "Compassionate Conversations" around Israel, facilitated by Cyndee Levy.
Details and signup (by February 28--today) are hereAmong the goals are to foster a spirit of mutual respect for divergent perspectives and to serve as a model for how we, as a community, can comfortably engage in discussions when there is conflict. I'm so grateful to our Israel Committee and its chairs Shula Neuman and Rena Munster for their leadership.

This is going to be an amazing experience, and I'm really proud of our shul for offering this.  There is space left--if you're considering signing up, please do so ASAP!!! The (extended) deadline is today.

Purim
Purim is coming!
All the Purim info is here.  Monday, March 3 is the deadline to sponsor Mishloach Manot, as well as to order mishloach manot to send to friends and family outside of the Kol Rinah community.

We don't know what the future will hold for the remaining hostages, who have been in captivity in Gaza now for
511 days.  May they all come home soon.

May the one who makes peace in the heavens make peace over us, and over all Israel, and over all who dwell in the world.

Shabbat shalom, and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
