Dear Kol Rinah Family,

Since last night, Israel has been attacking nuclear and military targets in Iran.  Israelis are prepared to spend this Shabbat in or near shelters, uncertain of what retaliation may be coming their way.

We know that Iran has threatened Israel's existence and pursued the acquisition and creation of nuclear weapons, a terrifying combination.  We know that Iran has supported Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen, and Hamas.  We know that Iran and its proxies, in their retaliations and terrorism, have targeted civilians, and not only military sites. We know that Israel has not targeted civilians in its attack on Iran.  We know that Iran's government is deeply unpopular, autocratic, and smothering of dissent, and that many of Israel's covert actions against Iran have been conducted and aided by Iranians opposed to the current regime there.

But there is also much we don't know, much we cannot know. We don't know how effective Israel's attacks will be on Iran's nuclear and military capabilities.  We don't know if this approach will be more effective than whatever the negotiations that were, it seems, ongoing, would have produced.  We don't know what the cost will be from whatever retaliations ensue.

I remain committed to Israel's safety and security from all who seek it harm.  My prayers and solidarity are with the Israeli people, uncertain and fearful of what the coming hours and days hold for them.  I mourn the innocent Iranian civilians killed in these attacks.

Most of all, I pray that this will increase peace and security for Israelis, Iranians, the entire region, and ultimately, for us and the entire world.

The first session last week was completely fascinating.  Details are here.

I misspoke last week--the eruv is up and repaired everywhere except south of Forest Park Parkway, which is the new southern border of the eruv right now.  When I hear that it has been fully repaired, I'll let you know.

Next Saturday we will celebrate Pride Shabbat.

I've been made aware of a cat (kitten?) up for adoption.  The cat will be 1 in mid-July.  When she was weighed May 20, she weighed 6lbs 3oz.  I am told, "She loves being held, she listens to music of all kinds, uses potty well and uses Tidy Cats multi cat glade litter and absolutely loves Purina One plus Protein with salmon and ocean whitefish!"  Email me if you are interested in adopting her.

Amidst the attacks on Iran, we don't know what the future will hold for the remaining hostages, who have been in captivity in Gaza now for 616 days.  May they all come home soon.

May the one who makes peace in the heavens make peace over us, and over all Israel, and over all who dwell in the world.

Shabbat shalom, and see you in shul,
						Rabbi Noah Arnow
