Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 7/4/2025

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

Happy Fourth of July!

My sermon from two weeks ago (Pride Shabbat) is
available here.

Tonight, Karen Kern will be at shul for Kabbalat Shabbat and ma'ariv at 6pm.

Candle lighting is at 8:11pm.

Tomorrow morning we'll start at 9am.  Torah Talk with Will Soll will be at 10:10am. He'll be teaching on: "The Rashi Files: The Case of the Polar Passages."

We'll be giving a Jewish name to Norah Shanas, daughter of Elizabeth and Jeremy Shanas, granddaughter of Harriet and Michael Shanas.  Mazal tov to the entire family!

We'll also be celebrating the aufruf of Sarah Levy and Remington Rhodes. Mazal tov to them on their upcoming wedding, as well as to Sarah's parents, Beth and Joe Levy!

Having just returned from a week in New York, I'll be speaking about the recent New York City mayoral election, how some Jews are understanding that election in some different ways, and how this connects to July 4 (and maybe even the parasha!).

Kiddush will follow services.

Shabbat ends at 9:14pm.

Tuesday night at 7pm on Zoom begins our short story discussion group.  The first story discussed will be Isaac Bashevis Singer's "Joy."  RSVP to get a copy of the story.
Details for this and future sessions are here.

Next Friday night, we'll be hosting Rabbis Joshua Skoff and Jared Skoff, father and son, and son and grandson of Rabbi Benson Skoff, rabbi for many years of our legacy congregation BSKI.  After services, we'll have dinner and a program that will include memories of Rabbi Benson Skoff.  All are welcome;
dinner requires RSVP by Tuesday, July 8.

There's much more happening over future weeks, and all the details are
on the website.

Let us not forget about the hostages, who have been in captivity now 637 days, amidst the ongoing war in Gaza, where civilians continue to suffer.

May the one who makes peace in the heavens make peace over us, and over all Israel, and over all who dwell in the world.

Shabbat shalom, happy July 4th, and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
