My sermon from last Shabbat, about the verse from which the name of Israel's operation in Iran, Operation Rising Lion (or translated more literally from the Hebrew, Operation People Like a Lion), is on the website here.
Tonight, I'll be here for mincha, Kabbalat Shabbat and ma'ariv (no instruments). We have a couple of people coming to say kaddish, and I know some people are out of town. If you're able to come to make sure we have a minyan, your presence would really be appreciated.
Candle lighting is at 8:05pm.
Tomorrow morning services will start at 9am. It will be "Sages Shabbat," where we'll be honoring our members ages 80+. It's going to be a very special morning, and I hope many of you will be able to make it.
We'll also have Tot Shabbat at 10:45am, led by Karen Kern, and kiddush following services, sponsored by the Faye Keyser Memorial Seudah Fund.
Mincha Saturday evening will be at 7:05pm. We're very close to having a minyan at mincha--but many people are away, so a few extras would be super helpful.
We'll do mincha, eat a little, study, do ma'ariv and make havdalah.
Shabbat ends at 9:08pm.
Sunday (July 20), our Israel Committee, together with St. Louis Friends of Israel, will be hosting a screening of October8, a film about antisemitism on college campuses, beginning at 3:30pm. Details and signup are here. We are expecting a very large crowd. Doors open at 3pm.
Tuesday nights (July 22), at 7pm in person here at Kol Rinah, Avi Mazzeo will be teaching the second of two sessions on "Exploring Sephardic Music." It's going to be beautiful, again, with great music. Details and signup here.
Next Friday night (July 25), we'll try having Shabbat at the Park again, with an abbreviated Kabbalat Shabbat and ma'ariv at Shaw Park's South Shelter. Who knows--maybe it won't rain this time!
And Summerfest, with Neshama Carlebach, is coming! Sign up for Shabbat dinner, reserve at spot at Havdalah, and buy tickets to Sunday's concert now, on the website! It's going to be a very special weekend, and I'm so excited for it! Come to everything, miss nothing!!!
Let us not forget about the hostages, who have been in captivity now 651 days, amidst the ongoing war in Gaza, where civilians continue to suffer.
May the one who makes peace in the heavens make peace over us, and over all Israel, and over all who dwell in the world.
Shabbat shalom and see you in shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
