Jewish Senior Connection
Tuesday, April 13, 2021 • 1 Iyyar 5781
1:00 PM - 3:00 PMZoomThe first Jewish Senior Connection program will take place on Tuesday, April 13, at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom. Future monthly programs will also take place on the second Tuesday of the month, and additional special programs may be planned at other times. The first program will focus on offering some helpful resources for older adults in our community to feel more confident and comfortable in using computers and other technology. Future programs will also take place on the second Tuesday of the month Contact Marcia Mermelstein at 314-576-9990, ext. 139 or at marcia@bnaiamoona.com. "The Jewish Senior Connection" is funded by a generous grant from the JCA Charitable Foundation which was awarded to your three congregations. One facet of the program will be to offer monthly social gatherings (via Zoom for right now) with lunch and entertainment for Jewish adults who are 65 or older. The moderate cost for a Kosher lunch will be $10 each time, but you will be welcome to participate in the programs only, at no cost. Although the focus is on engaging participants from your congregations, all events will also be open to the greater St. Louis senior community. The other facet of this program will be to start making regular outreach phone calls, set up possible Zoom meetings, and arrange for eventual in-person home visits for the older adults in your congregations who are more isolated and cannot attend the social gatherings. These personal contacts will be a way of checking in on individuals' social, emotional, spiritual, and physical health---and making proper referrals as needed. I will be serving as the coordinator of this senior program, and I am grateful for the assistance of multiple B'nai Amoona staff members, along with Rabbi Scott Shafrin from Kol Rinah and Executive Director Marion Gordon from Traditional as we plan and publicize future events. I am looking forward to using the resources and programming skills I have acquired through my extensive career as an educator and social worker, much of it having been spent working in the Jewish community. Most recently, I have served as an Information and Referral Specialist for Older Adults at JFCS, and from 2015-2020 I was the Senior Services Coordinator for the city of University City. We hope you will mark your calendars for this first program---a flyer with more specific information about the April 13 program and how to register for it will be sent to you within the next few days, so be sure to watch your email inbox.
