May 2019

March was truly filled with an abundance of joy and happiness, as its Hebrew month equivalent, Adar, dictates. We started off March with a special edition of First Friday Night for Families. About a dozen families joined us to make guitars out of tissue boxes, have dinner together, and jam out at Friday night services with their newly made instruments. The joy continued at the Purim carnival, where kids (and some parents!) came in costume to play games, eat food generously provided by the Men’s Club, and consume PLENTY of candy! There were smiles abound as kids extinguished candle flames with water guns, got designs airbrushed on their arms and painted on their faces, threw sponges at our USYers, shaved balloons, tossed baseballs and bean bags, got tricked by the magician, and turned their mouths blue with snow cones or pink with cotton candy. Everyone especially loved Karen Kern’s Candy Land themed obstacle course. The Purim fun continued on Erev Purim with a family dinner and a Dr. Seuss Megillah reading read by Rabbi Shafrin

Still fitting within the themes of Adar as babies tend to bring smiles to many faces and joy to many hearts, we wrapped up March with New Baby Shabbat. We had ten beautiful families join us with their new babies to celebrate and welcome them into our Kol Rinah family. It is exciting to have so many young families engaged in the Kol Rinah community and we can’t wait to continue to watch this community grow and flourish.
