The Wisdom of a New Start
Yose ben Yoezer used to say: let your house be a gathering space for the wise; sit in the very dust of their feet, and drink in their words with thirst.
~ Mishnah Avot 1:4
Over the past six years, one of my primary missions has been to build our religious school into the kind of community that brings together learners of all ages and interests, a place where curiosity is rewarded and wisdom fostered.
Our Kol Rinah Education Hub (KoREH) has been working diligently week after week to foster that spirit, and I am happy to report that our school has been flourishing as a result. Our enrollment this year looks to be the largest ever in the past ten years. We have veteran teachers, who have shaped a generation of our learners, working with an amazing crew of new teachers and our largest, most excited group of madrichim we have ever had.
We have diversified our learning experiences, utilizing our new building, both indoor and outdoor spaces to find new ways to learn. We have brought back our chugim, electives that marry students’ individual interests with pathways for Jewish communal learning. And we have found new ways to welcome in our parents and wider families for havdalah to start the day, parent learning groups each week and family gatherings and celebrations throughout the year.
I am so excited to start this new year, to sit and learn in an incredible community, and for all of the wisdom that I am so grateful to receive from amazing staff, my creative students, and their wonderful families each and every week.
