November 2023 KoREH News

What does a typical day at KoREH look like? We begin as a community, with the fabulously musically talented Karen Kern leading us through a Havdalah ceremony. Then we go into our grade level classes where our teachers and madrichim staff provide engaging learning opportunities for our students. After a snack, the students then enjoy time in their chugim (electives) with topics ranging from art, Jewish makerspace, obstacles and challenges, and the ever so popular “Not Your Bubbie’s Kitchen.” Then we reconvene as a community to participate in T’fillah, or hear a story – something that will get these kiddos thinking about a Jewish concept as they depart.
Our August school supplies drive donated 863 items consisting of folders, markers, crayons, pencils, notebooks, glue sticks, construction paper and more, totaling $1,588.75 in supplies. These items made their way to the KidSmart warehouse and then will be distributed to STL teachers throughout the year. I hope that this is a yearly event for Kol Rinah.
So here’s a question that might not often get asked in a synagogue newsletter… what are your plans on the evening of December 25? KoREH has been chosen to be the featured non-profit and staff the Tilles Park Winter Wonderland that evening. This is a win-win for us: KoREH will receive a donation for providing a staff of volunteers to take admission at the event. Additionally, we can be out helping out the greater community, allowing others to have a wonderful holiday and enjoy this St. Louis tradition. We are in need of volunteers willing to help the whole time, from 4-9pm. Please contact Cindy Kalachek, cindy@kolrinahstl.org to secure your spot.
B’Shalom,
Cindy Kalachek
