May 2024 Member News

So many wonderful things are happening this May and June! We kick off May with our annual Kol Rinah Mitzvah Day on Sunday May 5th. This is open to all of Kol Rinah and I hope that you’ll stop by and join us as we work to help repair our world. There will be many different service projects to choose from including packing meal kits for Operation Food Search, making cat toys for the Humane Society, planting flowers for Brentmoor residents, making soup kits for the food pantry, weaving squares from recycled plastic bags to make mats for the homeless, and many more. Plus our Tzedek Team is joining with Impact Life to run a blood drive as part of Mitzvah Day.

Special services in May include Tot Shabbat, Enchanting Shabbat and two Bat Mitzvahs! KoREH will wrap up another wonderful year of learning and celebrate their last school day with a Siyyum on May 19th. And we’ll celebrate Lag B’Omer at the park on Sunday May 26th.

In June, several special Shabbat events include Sisterhood Shabbat, Tot Shabbats, a Kol Chadash Shabbat and a New Baby Shabbat! June also brings Shavuot, Verein programs and the beginning of our series of Kabbalat Shabbat in the park services. Please watch your email and the website for more details on all of these upcoming events.

One more thought that I’d like to share with you, is a meaningful quote by the late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks: “each of us is unique.... There are things only we can do, we who are what we are, in this time, this place and these circumstances. For each of us God has a task: work to perform, a kindness to show, a gift to give, love to share, loneliness to ease, pain to heal, or broken lives to help mend. Discerning that task, hearing.... God’s call, is one of the great spiritual challenges for each of us.” May we each do our best to meet this challenge and as we do so, we’ll add hope and light to help mend our hurting world.
B’Shalom,
Karen
