Summary |
Purim has come and gone, Passover has passed over and now it’s time for spring and for Shavout which translates to “weeks” in Hebrew and counts the number of weeks it took for the Jews wandering in the desert to reach Mt. Sinai. During Shavout many Jews bring the outdoors into their homes and synagogue by decorating with greenery and flowers. Also, many Jews stay up all night to study and symbolically prepare to receive the wisdom of the Torah.
One of the activities Sisterhood has been involved with was providing challahs for the goody bags given to new members of the synagogue. Many sisterhood members also helped pack and deliver the goody bags to our new members.
Another activity Sisterhood will participate in will be co-sponsor for Mitzvah Day on May 15 and will be supplying the goodies attendees will take as they leave the festivities. Many of our members will be working in the different mitzvah opportunity areas that day.
Torah Fund campaign started in April and will continue until May 28. The theme of the campaign is B’Yachad which means together. Donations of any amount are appreciated and at the $180 level you get a special Torah Fund pin as a gift. Torah Fund benefits Conservative Seminaries around the world. This year the campaign is honoring the Verein group led by Richard Gavatin and Ralph Graff.
Also on our calendar is Sisterhood Shabbat on Saturday, June 25. Sisterhood members will participate in all aspects of the service. The Verein Group will receive a special blessing. There will be a lunch Kiddush following the service.
We hope you’ll join us for the many activities and events we have coming up.
