January 2023 Sisterhood Message

We’ve just finished celebrating the Festival of Lights at the darkest time of the year.  I hope you all enjoyed Chanukah, at shul, at home, with family, friends, and the Kol Rinah community.  I’m just guessing that latkes and jelly donuts played a part in your celebrations. Seeing the Chanukah candles increase from night to night shows what just one more candle can do.   And it makes me think that it’s true of people.  How much of a difference just one more person can make.   Fran Kaar, our Membership chair, with her committee, has finished sending out reminders encouraging the ladies of Kol Rinah to add their light to our Sisterhood.  If you haven’t yet either renewed or joined Sisterhood, now is your chance.  We can always use another candle’s light.

The current terms of our officers and Board will expire the end of June. It may seem like a long time away, but, trust me, it will be here before we know it. The Nominating Committee will be putting together a proposed slate for officers and board members at large for the new term from July 1, 2023 – June 2025.  If you’re interested in joining the Board, please let me know. To be on the Sisterhood board, you must have been a member of Sisterhood for at least one year. After the nominating committee has a proposed slate, they will bring it to a Board meeting in the spring for a vote; and, if approved, there will be a general meeting to which all Sisterhood members are invited. It will be by zoom and there are no proxy votes allowed. A majority vote of those present at the meeting will determine the acceptance of the new slate of officers and board members-at-large.

The end of last year, Sisterhood gave the Monica Lynne Neidorff EEC and our religious school KoREH each $1000 for purchasing something that was not in their budget. We always wish we could do more.  One of our greatest joys and, indeed part of our mission, has always been in supporting the shul to our greatest ability.
Linda Makler will be working with the Board in the next couple of months on the Torah Fund campaign for 2022-2023.  Last year, we combined it with Sisterhood Shabbat.  If you would like to be a part of the planning committee, you don’t have to be a Board member; please give me a call.  One thing for sure, our Sisterhood will continue to make our best efforts to help support the five Jewish Theological seminaries, in Los Angeles, New York, Buenos Aires, Jerusalem, and Germany.

If there’s something you are looking for from Sisterhood, give me a call and let’s talk.
