March 2024 Sisterhood Message

It’s beginning to look a lot like Purim. About 16 of us gathered for Tu Bishvat the end of January with a program on Women and Food in the Talmud, led by our own Rabbi Jessica Shafrin who also gave us a recipe for Tu Bishvat tidbits stuffed prunes and apricots with nuts, and lovely herbal teas. There were a couple of pictures in the recent Extra. Thank you, Rabbi Jessica, for the interesting evening.

We have arranged for a docent-led tour of Jewish artists at the St. Louis Art Museum on Sunday, April 14, at 1pm. See the form to rsvp. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome to join us. If you’d like to meet earlier for lunch there is a nice restaurant in the museum.

We made our second and final report to the WLCJ on membership and I am grateful to all of you who renewed your membership or became a new member. We depend on dues and tributes to be able to give to many areas of the shul for many unbudgeted expenses.

The first in-person region conference of our Intra Continental region since 2019 will be the middle of May in San Antonio. If you have any interest in joining us, please let me know.

The International Women’s League president, Julia Loeb, was in town with her husband who was here on a business trip in January and Cindy Ginsburg, Debbie Finkelstein, Marian Katz and I met her for dinner one evening. It was nice to meet with her and have an informal discussion on our and other Sisterhoods.

We are starting to look ahead to June for a combined Torah Fund and Sisterhood Shabbat and if you would like to be part of the planning or participate in the Shabbat service, let me know.

We continue to pray for the safe return of those still held captive in Gaza and for the safety of those serving in the IDF in defense of the State of Israel.
