November 2018

USYers have many exciting events and opportunities planned for the year! We began with a few lounge nights filled with fun get-to-know-you games that allowed USYers to bond as a new board gearing up for a great year. Leading up to the high holidays, our lounge night focused on setting goals for the new year and setting Tefillah goals as well. USYers wrote a goal for what prayers or parts of the service they hope to lead in a Shabbat service at Kol Rinah. Our new ShinShin, Snir, joined us at a lounge night as well. We are excited to have him attend many of our programs.

We took a bit of a hiatus for Holidays as many fell on a Tuesday night, but we are excited to get lounge nights going again. Right now, our board is focused on recruiting new members to join our wonderful group of teens. They have been reaching out to 6th-8th graders through lounge nights, a bowling party, and personal outreach. The USYers enjoy their time with each other and want to be able to offer that opportunity to get involved to all of our 6th-12th graders. The end of October we have Kadima Kinnus, where our middle schoolers will travel to Ogden, Iowa for a weekend of bonding and immersion in Jewish life through fun programming planned by the regional USY board.

When I came into this position, many people told me what a great group of teens we have involved in USY. They were not kidding. It has been a pleasure to get to know our board members and work with them to plan lounge nights and events. They are passionate and committed and I am excited to get to know them even better and see the amazing things they will accomplish this year.
