Spreading Learning Far and Wide
Learning has always been fundamental to Jewish life and cultural expression. So much so that Jewish learning has been described as both “a tree of life” (Proverbs 3:18) and “like a warming fire” (Jeremiah 23:29), as something that nourishes and sustains us, and at the same time ignites our passions and fuels us forward.
In our own learning at our Kol Rinah Education Hub (KoREH), we have seen our learning grow our community by leaps and bounds. With the help of our amazing staff and phenomenal parents, we are poised to have the largest student body in the last ten years. While the last two years of adapting to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic have limited some of the ways we were used to building our learning community, it has also forced us to re-examine what creates the most impactful learning experiences for our families.
We are thrilled to be bringing back some of our students’ favorite experiences, like our chugim electives and weekly Havdallah to start our mornings, as well as adding new musical, artistic, and spiritual experiences for every age group and for the school as a whole. Our parent learning cohort has returned and I have been absolutely blessed to be able to learn every week with such caring, thoughtful, and inquisitive adults. We are looking forward to utilizing all of our new building, both our indoor and outdoor spaces, and traveling off-campus, when possible, to experience learning in other settings around St. Louis.
All these things get me so excited about starting our learning journey again next fall. If your family, or other families you know, are looking for a welcoming and open place to learn, please have them be in touch with me (rabbishafrin@kolrinahstl.org, or 314.727.1747). We are putting together our classes now, and the sooner we know how many students we will have in each grade, the easier it will be to add more incredible teachers to our wonderful staff team. We hope to get to learn with each of you in the year ahead!
