Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Arnow 7/14/2023

Dear Kol Rinah Family,

After being away for a couple of weeks, I slept in my own bed last night.  And it was the best night's sleep I've had since before I left.  Dorothy had it right: there's no place like home.

The Israelites' wanderings are nearing their end as we finish the book of Numbers this Shabbat; they are homeward bound.  And yet as we anticipate (dread?) Tisha b'Av, the 9th of Av, commemorating the destruction of the Temple, on July 26-27, we reckon with the beginning of Jewish homelessness, aka diaspora.

In what ways for you is home a place of comfort, of safety?  And how or when has home not been a simple place for you?

I'll be sharing more remarks on home in my sermon tomorrow morning.

This evening, we'll gather in the South Shelter of Shaw Park at 6pm for an abbreviated Kabbalat Shabbat.  We'll bring the challah and grape juice.  Feel free to bring a picnic dinner.

Candle lighting is at 8:08pm.

Tomorrow morning services are at 9am, and Tot Shabbat is at 10:45am, and kiddush will follow services.

Mincha, seudah shleesheet, maariv and havdalah will all start at 7:10pm, and Shabbat ends at 9:10pm.  We're doing this once a month for now, so come join us this week!!!

Shabbat shalom and see you in at the park and at shul,
Rabbi Noah Arnow
