Summer is much quieter around the shul. People travel, kids go to camp and our staff has been coming and going on their vacations.
By the beginning of August, we will be back and fully focused on High Holiday planning. We have our schedule for mailings – watch for the High Holiday information to arrive at your door early September – and know our game plan.
Our building continues to change and grow as the construction of the early childhood center expansion continues. We are all getting excited as the classrooms take shape and we plan for opening day.
One thing that has been a challenge for us is figuring out how to operate the building in a more environmentally friendly way. Our building systems – lighting, HVAC, etc. – work efficiently and the office recycles paper, but we are always looking for ways to do more.
I am happy to let you know that we are now composting food waste. Both our Halls & Catering committee and the Monica Lynne Neidorff Early Childhood Center deposit food scraps into a composting bin. The children in the Starfish class have taken charge of filling and rotating the bin. They will get to see how the food scraps become soil that will eventually be used in a garden. It’s a small but exciting step to being more environmentally friendly and it’s wonderful to see the kids participating in the activity – although I did hear a few comments about how gross it was!
Watch the website, your e-mail and your mailbox as we provide the information on the High Holy Days and all things happening at your shul.
