July 2021 Brotherhood Message

Shalom all! We are so pleased that Brotherhood has started in person programs. First we had the wonderful Lag B’Omer and recently we had an in person program as part of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs national convention “A Virtual Taste of Convention” in our new Kol Rinah building!!!! We had to go out to the courtyard to eat, but it was wonderful being inside with a dozen men all fully vaccinated. We were able to socialize without...Read more...

Chag Sameach, as I’m writing this on Israel’s Independence Day. We hope you all received your Leo Wolf Yellow Candles and were able to join our worldwide remembrance of the Holocaust. We thank all of you who made a donation (or still plan to). I also hope you were able to attend the Kol Rinah Lag B’Omer bonfire – we’re finally starting to be able to see each other in person, getting back to normal one day at a time!   We are...Read more...

IT’S REALLY FALL Our trip around the sun has brought us to autumn with shorter days, leaves ablaze in color and cooler nights as we head toward winter. With the fall season comes the annual Brotherhood Steak & Scotch in the Sukkah ‒ with a Taste of Talmud, but this year it was virtual. We couldn’t “smell that smoke.” We have gladly welcomed the return of Shabbat morning services, albeit by live streaming, and we continue to look...Read more...

September 2020 Brotherhood Message

IT’S ALMOST FALL AND TIME FOR CHANGE This is my last Brotherhood article for the Voice. For health reasons, I decided to step down as Brotherhood president. The Brotherhood Board of Directors elected Bob Olshan as president to serve until our election of officers in December.  I’d like to thank all the men of the Brotherhood for their support. The Brotherhood does an incredible amount of work to bring our men together to create a...Read more...

May 2020 Brotherhood Message

THE SUN’LL COME OUT TOMORROW, TOMORROW … I always thought that song was more than a little hokey. And when my daughters were very young and watched Annie a million times, I had a hard time coping with that song. However, few of us have experienced this kind of scary crisis before, so now that song takes on more meaning with its message of hope that things will get better. Brotherhood, like everyone else, has cancelled or postponed all its...Read more...

CH-CH-CH-CH CHANGES …

A salute to David Bowie with changes at Men’s Club. The biggest change is the name: Kol Rinah Brotherhood is the new moniker. Men’s Clubs across the country have been making that change for several reasons. Upmost, is that the word club has a somewhat old-fashioned undertone, leading to drops in membership and difficulty in recruitment. But we are not changing in name only. We have restructured the...Read more...

January 2020 Brotherhood Message

HAPPY SECULAR NEW YEAR! The start of a new year brings a fresh start and perhaps new places. December was a quiet month for the Men’s Club. No special events, but some organizational activity that will lead to new officers elected in January. We can announce that this year’s guest for the Sports Dinner is pioneering sports announcer Ron Jacober. Jacober took television broadcasting to a new level while working as the Sports Director of...Read more...
