September 2020 Sisterhood Message

In this era of COVID-19, with Kol Rinah Zoom minyanim and classes, we look forward to the High Holidays, although they will not be the Holidays we have known and loved. This year will not include buying a new outfit to start the new year, sitting with friends and fellow congregants. It will be different. But, it will be thoughtful and holy. It will still be the High Holidays. It will also be safe. Our officers and rabbis and the High Holidays...Read more...

May 2020 Sisterhood Message

Dear Kol Rinah members, Just a note from your Sisterhood in this very unknown time, writing just before Pesach, a Pesach like no other we have experienced. Instead of looking forward to being with family and friends, we are isolating and hoping to escape the brunt of the fury of the current COVID-19 pandemic. When The Voice is published, via email, as our life has become dependent on the technology we have developed, we hope that our lives can...Read more...

March 2020 Sisterhood Message

With the promise of Spring we look forward to a feeling of rejuvenation and anticipation that seems so desperately needed in these difficult times of division and conflict. Happily, it feels like we’re entering a new phase, preparing for the merriment and silliness of Purim and the sorrow and gladness of Pesach along with the awaited changes in the weather.

In January, Sisterhood was honored to provide the kiddush for the Bar...Read more...

January 2020 Sisterhood Message

Happy New Year. Such a different type of observance than our New Year of several months past. The first one brought so many new members and old members together to celebrate and observe the High Holidays together. This one is celebrated in a more celebratory, more individual way. They both have their place in our lives. The secular new year, 2020, that we observe will bring us closer and into our new Maryland Avenue building, a source of...Read more...

November 2019 Sisterhood Message

As the High Holidays are past, we look forward to starting afresh in 5780, hoping to improve on the years past. Sisterhood’s annual Break the Fast, generously supported by Steve and Nancy Keyser through the Faye Keyser Seudah Fund, and Supper in the Sukkah are now lovely memories.

As we look at the past, we happily remember Grace Kalina’s beautiful Bat Mitzvah and the opportunity to provide the Kiddush luncheon that day. We...Read more...

September 2019 Sisterhood Message

It’s difficult to begin our column as usual with information about an interesting program or a Kiddush the Sisterhood is doing. As we write, the horror of the murders of the last several weeks is still new. By the time you read this, the shock may be moderated but not the sorrow, outrage and once again the worry about what these events mean for our country and our Jewish community. We send a message of healing and strength to the many...Read more...

May 2019 Sisterhood Message

Spring has finally sprung! We had beautiful weather on April 7th, the date of our annual Torah Fund luncheon, a lovely event that raised funds to benefit the five international Conservative Seminaries. Thank you to all who made it so sweet. The monies raised, the camaraderie of Kol Rinah members, the hard work of those who helped in the cooking, buying and presenting, were exemplified by Linda Makler’s attention to detail. Of course we need...Read more...

March 2019 Sisterhood Message

The calendar keeps moving forward and spring is almost upon us. Even in February we get glimpses of its coming. Hopefully, soon, worries about polar vortexes and weird cold weather will be past us and we can settle in to enjoying several nice months before worrying about the beastly hot ‘vortexes’ which may invade us.

A large thank you to all who braved the frigid weather by attending Michael Faccini’s Bar Mitzvah on January...Read more...

January 2019 Sisterhood Message

The start of the secular new year gives us another chance to look both backward and forward. Since the last newsletter, much has happened to make the world feel less safe for so many people, including us as Jews. The recent UN report on European anti-Semitism confirms both widespread ignorance of the Holocaust by many, and the rising spread of anti Jewish sentiment and actions. While much already has and will be written about this, the...Read more...
